︎About this experience
"Chawaka" has a workshop in Uji, Kyoto, where many long-established tea shops specialize in local tea. We use Uji tea leaves as "plants", and enjoy their fragrance, in combination with beautiful flowers (preserved flowers). We create art plants and sell them in major stores.
Because Uji tea is also a food product, some tea leaves are discarded due to the strict quality control of tea gardens.
With the help of Japanese flower artisans, the ornamental plant "Chawaka", whose exquisite tea aroma you can enjoy, was born.
This product received a lot of attention in Japanese media, and in May 2023, it was promoted worldwide on NHK WORLD-JAPAN.
In this experience, you can choose your favorite flowers and plants from a large number of flowers and plants at the Chawaka workshop, create an original Chawaka with tea leaves and light a candle, to enjoy a typical Japanese aroma . We will make tea leaves used for the "tea incense burner" and you will be able to enjoy the fragrance of tea. (You will be able to keep the tea incense burner which is included in the experience fee. / The regular sale price is 4,950 yen.)
Tour Program
Chawaka Kyoto Uji Studio, the location of the experience, is located in the center of Uji, on Ujibashi-dori shopping street.
This is where all Chawaka products are made, sold and shipped.
There are many wonderful places around the store, such as Byodo-in Temple, which is depicted on the back of the Japanese 10 yen coin and is a World Heritage Site, and Ujigami Shrine, as well as long-established tea houses and matcha cafés. You can enjoy Uji while walking around before and after the experience.
Herbal Tea
Chawahana, who has a workshop in Uji, Kyoto, produces art flowers that let you enjoy a new fragrance using Uji tea leaves as plants and high-quality preserved flowers that do not fade. Due to the strict quality control of the tea garden, not all tea leaves are consumed. Using the power of Japanese floral artisans, we have found a new role for them in the appreciation of fragrance as well as flowers. From such an idea, "Chawahana" was born in Uji, Kyoto. Chawaka is a work (product) that has been filed as a utility model.
Preserved flowers are real flowers that do not wither, made by removing moisture from fresh flowers and applying a special treatment.
As they do not require water or care, they are the perfect flowers for those who want to decorate or give souvenirs or gifts. In the experience, you will have the pleasure of choosing your own favorite flower materials and tea leaves from a wide range.
After selecting the flowers and tea leaves, cut and attach the absorbent sponge to the wooden box that will serve as a container, then glue the flowers, arranging them according to your taste. In a space imbued with the scent of Uji tea, you will spend a warm moment and be immersed while concentrating on your work.
Using videos and virtual reality glasses, you can enjoy Uji and Uji tea with all five senses throughout the experience.
It may be difficult to reach the tea plantations during your stay, but enjoy the beautiful scenery that the tea plantations offer, created by the power of nature, time and the efforts of the farmers.
After making the flower tea, we will make tea leaves to use for the "tea incense burner" that you will bring back as a souvenir of this experience.
(The tea incense burner is included in the experience fee. / The regular sale price is 4,950 yen.)
A tea incense burner is a product that allows you to enjoy the scent of tea by lighting a candle and heating the tea leaves.
The Chawaka tea incense burner reproduces a unique, rare and elegant shape.
It is made in pottery, but it is very difficult to create this shape with pottery and many potters have given up.
We use a famous pottery called Seto ware from Aichi prefecture, and the craftsmen create this uniquely difficult shape.
They are available in white and black, and you can take home the one you like as a souvenir.

Chawaka has a workshop in Uji, Kyoto, and by giving a second life to tea leaves that have not been consumed due to strict quality control in tea gardens, we are bringing them from food status to that of plant. We create plant products that can be used without having to throw them away. We are quietly supporting a new history of Uji tea.
HOW TO USE
Place the tea incense burner in a flat and windless place, place an appropriate amount of flower tea leaves in the receptacle at the top, place a candle below and light it. Enjoy the beautiful aroma of Uji tea that spreads with heat. Stir occasionally. If you no longer smell the odor, replace the tea leaves. If you run out of Chawaka "Flower Tea Leaf" (included with the burner), you can buy it from Chawaka's online store. You can enjoy the color and flower difference by changing the tea leaves and flowers. It can also be used with commercially available dried Japanese tea, black tea, herbal tea, etc.
It is a recycled product from Uji tea whose appearance and fragrance you can enjoy by using the scent of tea leaves and combining it with real flowers that do not wither (preserved flowers). You can enjoy it as a Chawaka product or as a tea leaf for a tea incense burner.

Kyoto Go Card
The streets of Kyoto run in an orderly fashion to the north, south, east, and west. It is called "go board eyes" because it overlaps the pattern drawn on the board used in the Japanese game "go", similar to chess.
The work expresses the streets of Kyoto, where one can feel the flow of history in Kyoto, which has become the historical center of Japan.
The Tale of Genji
The Tale of Genji is a long Japanese love story written by a writer named Murasaki Shikibu during the Heian period (794-1185). Uji is used as the plot scene. It is a work that expresses the model of the human heart which mainly focuses on love.
Uji Station
Uji Station is a beautiful building that won the Good Design Award in 1996 (sponsored by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion). Inspired by the tea plantations of Uji and the city of Uji, it is characterized by its round shape and concrete construction. This work expresses the image of Uji Station, which represents the city of Uji.
Mimurodo
Ajisai-dera, commonly known as "Hydrangea Temple", located in Mimurodo, just near the center of Uji, is visited by many people to see the beautiful flowers blooming in June.
I only used hydrangea in my work and finished it wet with soft and bouncy colored undertones with the deep color of tea leaves.
Obaku
In Uji, there is an area called Obaku.
Obaku is also another name for a plant called the Cork Tree of Love. I designed this work with the image of a large tree with many branches, proudly facing the sky, and when the sun's rays reflect it, you feel the yellow even more beautifully.
Preserved flowers Commitment to fresh flowers
Stabilized flowers are real flowers that do not fade (about 2 years), made by removing moisture from fresh flowers through a special treatment. Preserved flowers, which also require special handling, are known to be more expensive than fresh flowers. They are popular flowers in Buddhist temples but also as gifts.
Maintenance tips
・Please do not give water.
・Storing in direct sunlight or in a hot and humid place may cause quality deterioration.
・Color may transfer if flowers come into direct contact with clothing, floors or walls.
・In places with high humidity, mold may grow.
Tea leaves for later use
The product comes with "Later Use Tea Leaves".
By pouring the tea leaves into the Chawaka bag, you can enjoy the beautiful and deep aroma of Uji tea.
Chawaka tea
Tea leaves grown in Uji "Wachaen" tea farm.
Many Wachaen tea plantations are located deep in the mountains on steep slopes in Wazuka Town. The steep slope, which is an optimal condition, creates a unique "fragrant and delicious tea" that cannot be reproduced elsewhere even with manual efforts.
Sencha, Hojicha, Japanese black tea
Chawaka, who has a workshop in Uji, Kyoto, uses Uji tea leaves as botanicals alongside beautiful preserved flowers to create and deliver a new flower art, "Chawaka", which can enhance the scent of tea tenfold.
He is often featured in department stores and the media, and in May 2023, a report will be dedicated to him and broadcast worldwide on NHK WORLD-JAPAN. This will bring a lot of attention to our product.
In this experience, you will choose your favorite flowers, plants and teas, think about the design and experience the creation of a unique tea flower in the world.
Chawaka, which represents a condensed version of Japan, will remind you of your trip, when its fragrance will embalm your interior.
